Product Description
In the north of Toledo, in the Sierra de Gredos, the very poor soils of Torrijos grows vines of old garnachas and syrah which produces only very few grains per plant, but very concetrated in flavours, fruit,
spices and minerals which result in very elegant wines. Not to be confused with the wines from lower
altitude and flat lands, the wines made in the mountains of GREDOS have gained a lot of popularity
between wine innovators, and small producers making wines very appreciated by public and media are
being done here. Canopy has been pointed by many as the best in the region.
Canopy is one of the most originals cellars in Spain; a project of two people, Afonso and Belarmino, that besides extensive knowledge in
winemaking, have a passion in producing authentic wines that is transmitted from the land to the bottle by selecting vineyards of old
garnachas located at high altitude with ridiculously low productions of 1,300 kilos/hectare; extracting the juice by stepping with the feet on
the grape with its own stalk on small vats without using any pumps; aged in barrels of different sizes (500 to 2000 liters) to highlight the
fruit and minerality, clearly identifying each plot with only one or two barrels, and blending them in the bottle to create a fantastic wine in
each category, backed with the highest scores, ranging from 92 up to 96 points Parker and Peñin.
Castillo de Belarfonso is one of Bodegas Canopy’s cutting edge value for money wine. It is a great monovarietal Garnacha wine, coming from a mountain vineyard. The name is derived from combining the names of the two owners Belarmino and Afonso with their dream to build “the castle” of their dreams.
The harvest is done manually as with all other wines from Canopy. Fermentation takes place in steel tanks, at a temperature of 21-23ºC, during 10-12 days.
After that it spends 5 months in French oak barrels and another 10 months in bottle. This wine has not been filtered, neither clarified. It is a limited production of 12.300 bottles.
