Muga Reserva

Bodegas Muga is located in the historical Barrio de La Estacion (railway station district) in Haro, in La Rioja. The facilities are two centuries old, built mainly of stone and oak.

In total the winery has about 90 wooden casks of different sizes and thanks to this range, the winery can make different wines depending on the fruit quality and the vineyards they come from.

Another special feature is that every four months wine has to be moved from the barrels where it has been sitting to new empty barrels. This is called trasiega (racking) and helps clear the wine from the settled sediment or lees that have precipitated during the ageing process. Racking also provides aeration.

VINEYARDS.Terraced chalky-clay soils from the Tertiary or Cenozoic Period. These vineyards are located at a maximum altitude in La Rioja and are on the edge of their growing area. There are only a few wineries that cultivate such extreme areas, but their special growing system allows them to make high quality wines and uncover the potential of each one of their terroirs. The resulting wines have a very good acidity and ageing potential.

VINIFICATION.Fementation with indigenous yeasts in oak vats. Aged for 24 months in barrels made from oak chosen in the cooperage. Before bottling the wine is fined using fresh egg whites. After bottling, the wine will undergo a refining process for at least a further 12 months in the cellar.
